Michael Braungart developed a radically new way of classifying products called the 'Intelligent Product System' that forms the basis of a new, green economics. (see Paul Hawken's 'A Declaration of Sustainability' Utne Reader Sept/Oct 1993) A chemist and chemical engineer, he founded the Hamburg Environmental Institute and is the managing director of the Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency (EPEA)-involved in developing environmentally safe, economically feasible and socially acceptable solutions to global environmental problems. The EPEA is a scientific advisory organization, consulting in environmentally friendly production, recycling, waste water management, and clean air techniques, with offices in Hamburg, New York, Moscow, London and Sao Paulo.
