Winona La Duke is a powerful and eloquent spokesperson for Indian
efforts to recover the rights to their lands, as guaranteed by
treaties. La Duke also fights the 'buying off' of Indian lands by
the U.S. and Canadian governments that often results in the deposit
of nuclear waste, strip-mining, over-irrigation and other
environmentally un-sound practices. La Duke is the campaign
director of the White Earth Land Recovery Program and the
environmental program officer for the Seventh Generation Fund, a
national native foundation.
