Move over, Soap Opera Update. It's 'Reality Blurred.'
Andy Dehnart, www.realityblurred.com
I admit it. I'm a sucker for reality TV. I remember my introduction to the phenomenon, sometime in the summer of 1992, when I spent an entire weekend locked in my air-conditioned apartment watching the first Real World marathon on MTV. I was hooked. And now it seems like the rest of the world is, too. Gallons of ink have been spilled in recent months pondering why Americans are so obsessed with the new reality shows, decrying their innate voyeurism and pointing out how un-real these shows really are. 'Instead of just griping about how fake these shows are, we should make the best of the situation,' responds Chicago-based writer Andy Dehnart, in a recent story he wrote for Salon. Dehnart, an unapologetic reality TV fan, is making the best of it by feeding his addiction with with his website Reality Blurred, 'a central place [for] reality TV news, gossip and links. Isn't the Web great?' Move over, Soap Opera Update.-- Leif Utne
