Central European Review
Jan Culik, professor of Czechoslovak Studies and commentator on
Czech affairs discusses how the disillusionment of the Czech people
has affected the latest round of anti-globalization protests in
Prague and the future relations of the Czech Republic with Western
Europe in an interview originally appearing in the Brazilian
newspaper
Folha De Sao Paolo. Contrasting American and
European protesters with those concerned with globalization in the
Czech Republic, Culik finds that 'unlike, say, people in the United
States, Great Britain or France, people in the Czech Republic feel
quite acutely that they are or soon could become just passive
'victims' of international capitalism. Czechs feel they cannot
easily be masters of their own fate.'
