Muna Hamzeh-Muhaisen, Le Monde Diplomatique
'Weep, my eyes, weep. The tears may just wash the pain down to a puddle around my feet.' That's just one excerpt from an eloquent online diary that Muna Hamzeh-Muhaisen, a Palestinian journalist, kept at Deheisheh, a refugee camp near Bethlehem. The diary is an emotional appeal for an independent Palestinian state, addressed to the 'silent world that doesn't give a damn, just because we are Arabs.' Weaving together a lattice of anger and sorrow, Hamzeh-Muhaisen still manages to end on a tempered note of optimism: 'Welcome to another day in Palestine. Rise and shine to another day of occupation, and try to find yourself a place under the sun. It's there if you look for it. And so are the green pastures and the blue sea, and the rainbow on the horizon. Just stretch your neck out further and you'll find it.'
