I recently attended the National Youth Poetry Slam championship and, along with a hundred others, cheered as a riotous, curly-haired New Yorker sneered, "You keep your walls/poets have the air. The website @149st is devoted to reclaiming those walls, but with the same fervor in mind. Dedicated to "the preservation of the history of New York City's subway graffiti," @149st provides a laudable visual and written narrative/archive of the subject, demanding recognition of this ephemeral art form and socio-historical chronicle.
