Anyone who's ever suffered from Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), or suffered along with someone who was suffering, knows its negative monthly impact. So, of course, if there were a drug that could alleviate this chronic chaos, we'd all be happy. Alicia Rebensdorf, writing on Alternet, explains how relieved and "validated" she felt when she first saw Eli Lilly's ad for a new drug called Sarafem. The pink pill was touted as relief for a disease called "Premenstrual Disphoric Disorder" (PMDD) a condition whose symptoms were similar to what Rebensdorf suffered a week prior to her monthly menstrual period. But when she investigated further, hoping that her monthly malady could be cured, she found a slick marketing plan intended to repackage Prozac before its patent expired.
