A rising number of prominent Colombian citizens is pressing for an
end to drug prohibition, claiming that the biggest casualty of
America's 'drug war' is Colombia itself. As James Wilson reports in
Financial Times, these anti-prohibition crusaders
cite the ever-escalating price of drugs as the cause of the
flourishing drug trade and the climate of violence it breeds. They
propose pouring the U.S. government's $1.3 billion military aid
package into improving the country's social conditions, thus
reducing the need for a lucrative drug trade.
