Celebrating built and natural environments, like the designed
community of Orenco Station, Oregon,
Terrain.org
offers poems and fiction about place, as well as articles and case
studies on 'UnSprawl.' The pedestrian-friendly community of Orenco
Station, located in Hillsboro near Portland, is one of these
studies in UnSprawl. A public transit-oriented neighborhood of
1,800 homes, Orenco Station is organized around a pedestrian spine
that extends from the light rail system that runs throughout the
Portland metro area.
Terrain.org cites the community as the
most ambitious and successful to date, and says it is a closely
studied example of new ideas in the battle against
sprawl.
