Officials in the British Columbia town of Lake Cowichan recently proposed that corporations be given the right to vote in municipal elections. The resolution, proposed at the March convention of the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities (AVICC), was designed to allow business owners who didn’t live in the town to have a say in municipal policy. AVICC delegates defeated the proposal handily, and a similar proposal in the city of North Vancouver was nixed by a 4-3 vote.
