Goodbye, All That: How Left Idiocies Drove Me to Flee

Self-identified 'anti-materialist liberal Democrat' Ron Rosenbaum is fed up with what he calls the dogmatic state of America's Left, particularly the 'blind spot' it maintains regarding Marxist genocides around the world, and its idea that America, in all its evil ways, deserved what was coming in the 9/11 attacks.

Writing in The New York Observer, Rosenbaum says he is tired of those who call Bush ''a devil' compared with those enlightened regimes that torture and murder dissidents,' and argues that the time and energy the Left spends criticizing Bush's dim intelligence could be better spent developing its own strong arguments.

As the Left presses on with today's anti-war effort, Rosenbaum calls for a re-evaluation of its past support of brutal Marxist regimes such as Russia, China, and Cambodia. He would like to stop hearing the claim that America is the greatest force of evil at home and abroad. 'All empires commit crimes,' he writes; 'in the past century, ours were by far the lesser of evils,' when compared to the millions killed in other nations.

Though he admits that he was slow to question what the Left supports, Rosenbaum hopes that in the future progressives can spot what true terrorism and violence are, and recognize where the Left has been wrong in the past.
