Responding to a Greenpeace expose on mahogany forest logging, the Brazilian government recently announced it would suspend forest management plans in the Amazon and take measures to protect indigenous lands. The decision came after the environmental activism group delivered a report on their investigation into the illegal activity in the mahogany industry in the Amazon. The report, Partners in Mahogany Crime, also outed a "mahogany mafia" which had links to international timber traders and helped in the seizure of the largest volume of illegal mahogany logs in Brazil's history. Greenpeace also reports the Brazilian government made certification mandatory for all forest plans surrounding indigenous lands and conservation areas.
