Today’s college students are a confident bunch. Many have traveled to remote parts of the world building their resumes and know how to conduct a conversation about a wide range of topics (even if they have to fake it). But as David Brooks notes in the Weekly Standard, this focus on career comes at the expense of old fashioned ideas like romance and idiosyncrasy. Brooks sees much less of the “going steady” dating scenario at the colleges he visits. Students tend to gravitate toward the a happy flexible clique. College students are still making time for sex, but courtship rituals are nothing like they were 10 or 20 years ago.
