Ground Zero: Where the Buffalo Roam?

If New York City walking-tour guide Timothy “Speed” Levitch had his druthers, the World Trade Center’s Ground Zero would be replaced with a green park filled with grazing buffalo. He articulated his idea in director Richard Linklater’s new film, Live From Shiva’s Dancefloor, reports Su Ciampa in a review on Salon. Levitch says that the buffalo are a nearly extinct American tribe that has been experiencing its own September 11 massacre for 400 years. He likens the WTC towers to rival siblings that were constantly trying to out-do each other. His idea for the buffalo park would help wash away the alienation that was a major part of the 9/11 attacks. The film premiered in January at the Sundance Film Festival, and it’s the latest creation by the director who also brought Dazed and Confused, Slacker, and Waking Life to the silver screen.
