Building on the momentum of the Supreme Court's recent decision in a Texas sodomy case and the newly-won right to civil marriage for gay couples in Ontario, British Columbia, and potentially Massachusetts, the Human Rights Campaign has launched a drive to gather a million signatures on its petition supporting the right of every American -- including gay and lesbian couples -- to marry. 'Marriage equality is a basic civil rights issue that we need to protect and advance,' asserts the HRC. 'It is vitally important that we take action now to influence public policy and shape public opinion about equal marriage rights.' At MillionforMarriage.org, you can add your name to the petition, which also pledges to oppose attempts to discriminate against GLBT individuals or couples.
