Konate began his career as a graphic designer at the Musée National in Bamako and went on to be appointed director of the Palais de la Culture in 1998. Having started as a painter, he has evolved into multimedia and large installation work that expresses his political, social, and environmental views. Recently, his work has depicted the devastating effects of AIDS on society and on individuals.
