Author (Ghana)
Utne Reader September / October 2007
Aidoo is best known for her play Anowa, a complex tale of a married couple's relationship set against the background of the iniquities of slavery and the disapproval of the woman's conservative, resentful mother. Aidoo's work was ahead of its time, pointing to the contradictions and tensions in love and the abuse of power.
