This Grammy-winning singer hails from the port town of Mindelo, on S?o Vicente. She possesses one of the most powerful and alluring voices in the world and sings in a bittersweet style called morna, a descendant of Portuguese fado. Many of her songs are about isolation, love, and slavery.
