Architect McDonough has initiated a new approach to ecologically considered design and manufacturing in his Hannover Principles: Design for Sustainability, design principles for architects participating in the upcoming World’s Fair 2000 in Hannover, Germany. His “Chattanooga Principles” suggest guidelines for an environmentally sensitive city and community. A founding member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on the Environment, he advises the President’s Council on Sustainable Development and is dean of the School of Architecture at the University of Virginia.
