Utne Reader Names Indiana University Professor a Visionary
National Magazine Selects Elinor Ostrom Among 25 People Who Are Changing the World
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Oct. 21, 2010) — Utne Reader, the best of the alternative press, names Elinor Ostrom, a professor at Indiana University, a visionary who is making the world a better place. Ostrom is among 25 people the magazine highlights in its November/December issue, on newsstands now.
Ostrom won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences in 2009 and was the first woman to win the honor. Her research focuses on the notion that the best managers of our collective resources are the people — not the government, and many reformers use her teachings as the foundation for their causes. Ostrom is currently a professor of political science at Indiana University.
“Throughout the year, as we read and plan issues, our editorial staff and select freelancers compile lists of people and institutions across disciplines that are doing work that challenges the status quo and promises positive, forward progress,” says David Schimke, Utne Reader’s editor in chief.
