Utne Reader Names Local Judge a Visionary
National Magazine Selects Annette Rizzo Among 25 People Who Are Changing the World

PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 21, 2010) — Utne Reader, the best of the alternative press, names Judge Annette Rizzo as a visionary who is making the world a better place. Rizzo is among 25 people the magazine highlights in its November/December issue, on newsstands now.

Judge Rizzo wants to restore the days when bankers worked with loan recipients during tough economic times. She is the driving force behind a successful foreclosure diversion program in Philadelphia. According to the Washington Post, the Court of Common Pleas, where Rizzo is a judge, settled 2,000 foreclosure cases by the end of 2009, keeping more people in their homes by renegotiating contracts and working to reduce interest rates.

“Throughout the year, as we read and plan issues, our editorial staff and select freelancers compile lists of people and institutions across disciplines that are doing work that challenges the status quo and promises positive, forward progress,” says David Schimke, Utne Reader’s editor in chief.
