Utne Reader Names Local Author a Visionary
National Magazine Selects Tim Wise Among 25 People Who Are Changing the World

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 21, 2010) — Utne Reader, the best of the alternative press, names Nashville writer Tim Wise a visionary who is making the world a better place. Wise is among 25 people the magazine highlights in its November/December issue, on newsstands now.

Wise focuses on comparative racism in education, religion and the labor market. In his latest book, Colorblind, Wise argues that racism is still a problem in the U.S., even after the election of Barack Obama, and that “colorblind” policies, which many have called for, only serve to worsen racial injustice.

“Throughout the year, as we read and plan issues, our editorial staff and select freelancers compile lists of people and institutions across disciplines that are doing work that challenges the status quo and promises positive, forward progress,” says David Schimke, Utne Reader’s editor in chief.
