Utne Reader Names Bill McKibben a Visionary
National Magazine Selects Vermont Resident Among 25 People Who Are Changing the World

RIPTON, Vt. (Oct. 21, 2010) — Utne Reader, the best of the alternative press, names Ripton resident Bill McKibben a visionary who is making the world a better place. McKibben is among 25 people the magazine has chosen for its November/December issue, on newsstands now.

McKibben co-founded and is a global organizer for 350.org, and is an environmental activist and advocate for change. 350.org unites a broad coalition of environmental groups under one banner to develop solutions to the climate crisis. McKibben also is a contributing writer to The New York Times, The Atlantic Monthly, Harper’s, Orion and Rolling Stone, among other publications.

“Throughout the year, as we read and plan issues, our editorial staff and select freelancers compile lists of people and institutions across disciplines who are doing work that challenges the status quo and promises positive, forward progress,” says David Schimke, Utne Reader’s editor in chief.
