Utne Reader Interns 7-17-09Interns at Utne Reader:

Katie Leo was born in Puchon, South Korea and raised in Indiana, where she subsisted on a diet of corn and shopping malls.  Her poetry, essays, news articles, and play excerpts have appeared in The Talking Stick, Journal of the Asian American Renaissance, 60 Seconds to Shine: One-Minute Monologues for Men, and Minnesota Women’s Press, among others. Her adaptation of the book Baseball Saved Us will premiere in March 2009 at Mixed Blood Theatre. She is completing her M.F.A. in Creative Writing at the University of Minnesota, where she is the 2008-09 Scribe for Human Rights.

Camella Lobo was born and raised on the perpetually sunny shores of Southern California, where she earned a degree in English literature from California State University of Long Beach. Before joining the Utne, she served a two-year stint as the senior editor of a transportation magazine based in Los Angeles, while secretly cultivating her literary skills. She is a blogger for the Ladies and Gents Auxiliary and her written work has appeared in Venus Zine, LA Record, The District Weekly, and Off the Wookie zine. She solemnly vows to resist becoming hardened and jaded by Minnesota winters.

Hannah Rogal grew up in Davenport, Iowa, and is a recent graduate of Mount Holyoke College in western Massachusetts. At Mount Holyoke, Hannah majored in History and English, edited the nonfiction magazine, and worked in the writing center. Hannah spent one summer interning at Democracy Now! and another teaching English in Tokyo, Japan. Happy to be back in the Midwest, Hannah spends her free time perfecting her knitting and cooking skills.

Emily Schnobrich is Minnesota-grown and has recently completed a B.A. in English at the University of Minnesota. Throughout college, she freelanced for The Wake, completed her thesis on the writings of M. F. K. Fisher, and spent most days tutoring at the writing center, where she had the pleasure of talking to all sorts of thinkers. Last summer she was fortunate enough to study Spanish in Toledo, Spain, as well as work on an organic farm in the Czech republic. Currently, she drinks cups and cups of coffee and wreaks havoc on her tiny kitchen.
