A repurposed city bus brings fresh produce to Chicago’s food deserts.

In 2011 a group of community activists in Chicago transformed a donated city bus into a mobile grocery store, delivering fresh produce to food deserts on the city’s south and west sides. Calling their project Fresh Moves, the group also worked to educate their clients on healthy eating.

Fresh Moves was originally funded by several federal grants, including one that allowed them to double the value of their customers SNAP benefits. When their funding ran out in August of this year, they were forced to shut down. Now, with the immense support of the community Fresh Moves is getting back on the road just in time for the holidays.
