Utne Communities' Clients Nominated for Internationally Renowned
Minneapolis, MN-Utne Communities, the online community-building wing of Utne Magazine is pleased to announce that two clients, AlterNet.org and Tolerance.org, are nominated for the prestigious 2002 Webby Awards in the Activisim category.
Since 1995, Utne Communities has been building and managing high quality online communities, including its very own Webby award-winning Café Utne, (cafe.utne.com) "With Web communities modeled after Café Utne, AlterNet.org and Tolerance.org reflect their commitment to connecting individuals to create greater social change," says Kai Hagen, Director of Utne Communities. "Both are inspiring examples of how online community can be used as a tool for social action."
AlterNet.org is a project of the Independent Media Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening and supporting independent and alternative journalism. The AlterNet forums are an area for commentary, debate and lively discussion of the articles and material on the site. Tolerance.org is an online community created for the Teaching Tolerance Project of the Southern Poverty Law Center. Dedicated to tolerance, diversity and inclusion, it offers public and private forums for teachers, human rights workers, caregivers and others.
Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet," Webby Awards have been bestowed annually since 1997 by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences to honor sites that best represent the Internet's innovation, creativity and originality. This yearís Webby Award winners will be announced at a ceremony on June 18.
