UTNE'S FREE BEER ISSUE RESULTS IN PRINT AND BROADCAST MEDIA BINGE; MAGAZINE LOOKING HIGH PROFILE ON EVE OF VOLATILE ELECTION AND ITS OWN 20TH ANNIVERSARY
MINNEAPOLIS, MN., -- March 30, 2004 - Utne Magazine's newest issue, "FREE BEER! And six other ways to bring the party back into politics," offers such refreshing coverage of a time-worn subject that major media channels have been quick to book Utne editors in their pages and on their shows.
Utne Senior Editor Jon Spayde has appeared twice on MSNBC's Dennis Miller Show and Fox news, Twin Cities. He has also been invited as an upcoming guest on the new Air America network's "Marty Kaplan show." Associate Editor Leif Utne has appeared on Twin Cities Public Television's live Almanac show and will be a guest on Minnesota Public Radio's, "Midmorning." This story has also been picked up by many print outlets, including Rueters news service.
In addition to the groundswell of interest in re-energizing the political process, Senior Editor Anjula Razdan's stories on "Chick Lit"(today's new feminism or curse?" and "Petropolis" (how the future of cities may depend on pets) -- has also generated considerable interest. She has been booked on several national radio talk shows including National Public Radio's, "On the Media."
"Utne magazine is gaining not only quantitative -- but qualitative high media exposure among American print and broadcast media," says Judy Rudrud, Utne President and Publisher. "The interest we generate in mainstream media is definitely extending even greater value to our advertisers.
"We're clearly the best positioned 'alternative voice' in this market. During the '80s, we ushered in the men's movement. We paved the way for the environmental movement of the '90s. Now on the eve of our 20th anniversary and during this volatile presidential race, we expect our one-of-a-kind coverage of culture, politics and trend-setting issues to be a rich source of ideas and inspiration for the media-at-large in 2004 and beyond."
