safety and trust

This is a song about safety:

“I Won’t Let Go” by Peter Buffett

From the moment we’re born we rely on someone else for our very survival.

If carbon is the basic building block of life, I believe that safety is the most elemental component in a relationship. It’s what we needed first – and what continues to be necessary in order to grow into who we become. “You’re so becoming” is my favorite compliment.

When safety gives us a bed to sleep in at night and animates us during the day we’re allowed to live with our hearts open.

And safety comes in many forms:

• Knowing we’re going to eat (at least 17 million children in the US don’t know where their next meal will come from, and 17,000 children die of starvation every day worldwide).

• Knowing we’ll be safe from physical and/or emotional abuse (the numbers regarding how many people are subjected to abuse in its many forms—and its effects—are staggering).

• Simply feeling heard, knowing that your thoughts and feelings matter.

• Knowing that someone will always be there, which is comforting to say the least.

What’s keeping us from these feelings of safety? I would look to what generates and perpetuates fear.

Again, these things come in many forms, and range from topical saturation (the way we get our news and are marketed to) to systemic (taxes required to sustain the military industrial complex – a double dose of fear: higher taxes and annihilation). Meanwhile, pharmaceuticals are there to numb the fear and stress, which is very different than feeling safe.

How can we change the story—individually and throughout society—so more people feel safe and secure?

If the song’s ending surprises you, think of it as letting go—a “trust fall.” I remember doing that with my dad as a kid. Falling backward and believing he would catch me (he did!).  That is transforming fear (falling and getting hurt) into safety ... in the form of trust.

Foreclosures, poverty, joblessness, homelessness. We're in a time of rapidly diminishing security. And we're in a country of rapidly increasing heartlessness. This afternoon, a homeless couple who had been foreclosed on next door visited me. They had been squatting in their old house some nights, and sometimes in the next house down which had been foreclosed on as well. But the police have begun to roust them out. They asked if they could park in my driveway and visit their cat who I've been feeding. The man had found it as an abandoned kitten next to a paint store so he called it "Sherman". I said sure and they stayed in my yard with the cat for over an hour, hugging it, and feeding it what little they had. And I realize as I write this that this is a Depression story. The kind you tell your grandchildren. Our nation has abandoned us. Our leaders have abandoned us. Society has abandoned us. More and more of us are as scared and helpless as the lost kitten by the paint store. All we have left is what got us through the last Depression. We have each other. So many are falling, please.......catch them.

The next time you cut someone off in traffic, use your force to solve a dispute, verbally abuse a child, a spouse , ridicule the less intelligent, Poke fun at the misfit or fail to control yourself and cause intentional pain , ( I am guilty of them all ) remember we all all in this together , we are not separate from each other and we need each other. we need to trust each other

perhaps just knowing that people are working on this in different places might help:THE GREATEST IDEA THE WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN All throughout the history of mankind - ideas have been entering the minds of men and women and they have, with the help of their subconscious minds, been directed, along every step of the way, and been given the information needed to know how to move towards and to know exactly how to achieve the materialization of these ideas, which are, in reality, given to him or her, through this subconscious mind as well. If, for any reason, there is any doubt in the reader's mind about the means and wherewithal for such transference of these ideas towards the mind of men and women from the subconscious as well as the use of the subconscious to direct men and women towards materializing the ideas which he or she has been given - it is not my place here to either explain this phenomenon any further or to convince the reader of this - but instead to direct your reading towards the multitude of materials that have been written over the ages about this subject and which can be easily obtained through so many channels - On the contrary, I am writing this particular article to merely place with the written word a most simple but profound idea within the minds of the readers of this article - just one of these ideas that has been given to me personally, and that idea which I will call "THE GREATEST IDEA THE WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN" is that an entirely new world - a world where men and women live with each and every other man, woman and child peacefully and in total harmony, can and does exist and this world, which I have been given the idea to create and which I have begun creating and which does already exist is what I call: Volord Kingdom and now that I have placed this idea in you the reader's mind, there will be the opportunity for you to, on a continuous basis during the rest of your life, to both see signs of the creation, the existence and emergence of Volord Kingdom until there will be, as far as you are able to sense, absolutely none of the qualities of the old world, the world where things that you have previously disliked about the world do not exist any longer, as well as the ability for you to partake in the creation of this new world as well. For myself, there may be lots more or not much more that will be required of me to see this idea into total fruition, but now that this "THE GREATEST IDEA THE WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN" has been revealed to you - the reader of this article - it is now partially left up to you and all of the millions of people who will be reading this article over the years to partake in being directed by your subconscious minds towards accomplishing this goal both here and throughout the entire Universe. thank you! People feel safe and secure when they can relax and enjoy themselves at something...without concern of what "other people" think about them.
