Thomas Bartlett’s article on Osama bin Laden’s personal tapes reprinted in Utne Reader
WASHINGTON (April 6, 2010) — Thomas Bartlett’s article “Before Martyrdom, Breakfast,” will be featured in the May-June issue of Utne Reader, on newsstands April 20.
The article explores the varied subject matter contained on audiotapes of al-Qaeda operatives, turned over following the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan. The often casual recordings provide interpreters clues into the minds of bin Laden and his associates. Bartlett’s work originally appeared in The Chronicle of Higher Education, the source of news, information and jobs for college and university faculty members and administrators. The publication is nominated for two Utne Independent Press Awards, in the categories of general excellence and social/cultural coverage.
