Eventually German chancellor Gerhard Schröeder has struck a deal with the nation’s nuclear power industry that calls for phasing out all nuclear reactors by 2021, according to World Watch (Sept./Oct. 2000). Europe’s largest electricity market will then rely on coal and renewable energy sources.
