Fight For Your Right to Party
Staff Drug Policy Action Center
The party is officially over if two guilt-by-association drug
acts are passed. Portions of the CLEAN-UP Act and the RAVE Act,
which are currently being considered by Congress, would make it
easier for the federal government to punish promoters and property
owners for drug offenses committed at their events?even if they
have no knowledge of them. Critics fear club owners and promoters
will be scared off by the idea of doing time for crimes they didn?t
commit and that soon there will be nowhere to go and see live
music. There is talk that investigators would be able to
discriminate against certain venues under these new laws and crack
down on events that don?t fit their good-old-boy tastes in music.
With so much of Congress? attention being devoted to the war on
terror and the invastion of Iraq, organizers at the Drug Policy
Action Center worry that the misguided bills will breezed through
with little deliberation. They invite you to contact your
congressperson and speak out against these bills before it?s too
late.
