ArtBots: The Robot Talent Show

| July 16, 2003

The second annual ArtBots show, which opened July 12 at Manhattan?s Eyebeam gallery, brings the state of the art to a new high. The exhibit showcases 23 art-making robots, from the Automated Architecture Robot?which sculpts model buildings out of a block of ice with a water hose, then projects windows and doors onto it with a slide projector?to the 4-piece robotic band LEMUR (League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots)?which includes the self-playing GuitarBot and a four-armed blue drummer called ShivaBot. It?s too late to catch the opening talent show, which took place July 12 and 13, but the web site contains artist statements and bios for each of the 23 participating artists and groups. And selected entries are on display through this week.
