Bush's War Plan Is Scarier Than He's Saying

A deeper look at the neo-cons' plan for global domination

| October 23, 2003

Global wars, space control, and U.S. power projection around the world are all part of an obscure foreign policy initiative authored by high-level Bush administration officials. Components of the 'Statement of Principles' of the Project for the New American Century -- signed by Vice President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, and others - have already become part of American foreign policy, reports Sydney H. Schanberg in The Village Voice.

The details of the 'Statement of Principles' are striking: 'Fight and decisively win multiple, simultaneous major theater wars,' says one part of the report, while defensive measures include missile defense and control of the 'international commons' in space and cyberspace. Another statement was more prescient than even its authors had probably imagined: 'The process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event -- like a new Pearl Harbor.'

Conspiracy theory aside, when the vice president and secretary of defense are signatories of a plan blatantly calling for world domination, multiple large-scale wars, and a new military service -- U.S. Space Forces (among other absurdities) -- the American public has a right to know. As Schanberg writes, 'How far has the White House taken this plan? How long can the president keep the nation in the dark, emerging from his White House cocoon only to speak to us in slogans and the sterile language of pep rallies?'
