Known as the “moral conscience of the Jewish world,” Lerner has revitalized the social consciousness at the heart of the Jewish tradition. He is the editor and publisher of the progressive Tikkun Magazine, which is known for its issue-oriented ethical and spiritual treatment of liberal politics and its unwavering support of the Israeli peace movement. Recent books include Jewish Renewal: A Path to Healing and Transformation, which reinterprets Jewish history and destiny from ancient Roman times to the Israeli-Palestinian peace accords, and Blacks and Jews, written with Cornel West, to be published in 1995.
