A passionate intellectual and eclectic political theorist, Elshtain in her influential books Public Man, Private Woman: Women in Social and Political Thought and Women and War draws connections between political and ethical convictions in contemporary thought. She is a political philosopher and the newly appointed Laura Spelman Rockefeller Professor of Social and Political Ethics at the University of Chicago.
