The Market Speaks: No GM Foods

U.K. chain Sainsbury's will not carry genetically modified foods

| March-April 2000

Sainsbury’s, one of the largest supermarket chains in the United Kingdom, will no longer carry foods with genetically modified ingredients, reports World Watch (Nov.-Dec. 1999). The move is part of “a sea change” that has occurred in Europe in the past year, led primarily by public reaction against the possible ecological and health effects of “Frankenfoods.”
