Called a “bioethicist to the masses” because the news media seek out his outspoken stands on medical ethics, health policy, and ethical issues in science and technology, Caplan is the director of the fledgling Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania and the author of countless books and articles on the ethical challenges that accompany recent developments in medical technology.
