Jones, co-founder of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, is a man with a mission. His in-your-face choreography is not only profoundly beautiful but also deeply political. Social commentary on AIDS, race, mortality, and homosexuality whirl around his stages along with his dancers. A 1994 recipient of a MacArthur (“genius”) Fellowship, Jones also creates dances for other modern ballet and opera companies. His most recent work is Still/Here, which examines survival in the face of life-threatening illness.
