Camp is one of the first female African artists to have attracted the attention of the European art market. She left her country at the age of 21 to study in Oakland, California, and at the Royal College of Art in London. Her expressive steel sculptures of human figures use masks and ritual clothing as compositional themes, reflecting the political and cultural relationship between Africa and the Western world.
