Funky, raw, and unruly, Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears play revved-up, licentious R&B that often comes close to comic exaggeration–just like James Brown, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, and the Rolling Stones taught them. By having such bawdy and unhinged fun with their garage-soul sound, they give listeners license to do the same. Just be careful that the neighbors aren’t watching when you start dirty-dancing to “I’m Broke,” “Boogie,” or “Bobby Booshay.”
