Like magazines? At Utne Reader, we don’t just like magazines, we live them, spending each day happily swimming in piles of some of the best publications the alternative press has to offer. A few years after Utne Reader established itself in the publishing world, our staff began looking for a way to trumpet the accomplishments of the alternative press, to honor some of the great work produced by devoted souls.

The result was the Utne Reader Alternative Press Awards, our annual opportunity to honor the cream of the crop–the best publications around. Nominees are selected by our editors; readers are then asked to join us in voting for their favorites on our Web site www.utne.com, where you’ll also find background on the nominees, links to their Web pages, and subscription information. So get reading, and then give us your opinions: Winners will be announced in the Jan./Feb. 2002 issue.
