Carpal tunnel syndrome starts as a slight twinge of pain or stiffness between the tendons on the inside of the wrist and, if you ignore the early warnings, can become an intense, paralyzing agony. When you jar your fingers with repeated use or keep your hand at an awkward angle while typing or using a mouse, tension and stress move up your arm, possibly resulting in tendonitis at the wrist and elbow, a stiff shoulder, or even dislocated vertebrae in the neck.

Like most people suffering from this syndrome, I hoped the symptoms would just go away. They did not disappear, however, until I had followed, for two weeks, the following carpal tunnel program, which combines raw vegetable juices, herbs, and homeopathic remedies for such conditions as tendonitis, arthritis, and fatigue:

After meals and at 10 a.m.: Take one capsule of hawthorn, which strengthens the heart muscle, reduces fatigue, and aids circulation.

Between meals: For improved mobility and less pain, add one dose (or 10 pills) of homeopathic ruta graveolens at 30c strength to one quart of water. This homeopathic form of garden rue reduces tendonitis. Drink it throughout the day, waiting 20 minutes after meals or coffee.

Take to work a thermos of Red–Hot Juice (see recipe ) to reduce pain, stiffness, and swelling. Have one or two glasses of the juice along with digestive herbs at lunch or during the afternoon. (Try Nature’s Herbs’ ArthPlus, Health Concerns’ Mobility 3, Crystal Star’s Ar–Ease Caps, or another herbal combination designed to ease pain, reduce acid, and increase circulation.)

People who spend hours sitting need help ridding the body of congestion, fat, and unhealthy deposits in the muscles and at the joints. This tangy raw vegetable juice will get the joints and waistline back into shape and help relieve carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, obesity, constipation, poor circulation, and painful, puffy legs.

Red–Hot Juice
1/4 red cabbage
4 large celery stalks with leaves
1/4 teaspoon celery seeds

Red–Hot Juice
1/4 red cabbage
4 large celery stalks with leaves
1/4 teaspoon celery seeds
2large carrots
1/4medium–size
white onion (optional)
1/2–inch slice raw ginger
1/8 tsp. prepared horseradish (optional)
1 large handful fresh parsley
1large handful fresh mint or 1 tsp. dried juice of 1/2 lemon

Blend the ingredients, thin to desired consistency, and sip during the afternoon. (It’s a bad idea to drink raw juice first thing in the morning because cold, raw vegetables are difficult to digest.) Red cabbage, onion, and celery are wonderful for reducing joint pain; parsley reduces water retention; and ginger and horseradish eliminate chronic congestion. As with all raw juices, start by drinking only a small, easily tolerated amount.
