Bombing Big Sur,Counter

Fort Hunter Leggett, located near California’s scenic Big Sur,
contains ‘a greater conservation of resources (grassland, oak
savanna, woodland, and chaparral) than any other contiguous parcel
in the state’ claims the fort’s top brass. It is also the home of
the endangered sea otter and the nearly extinct california condor.
Yet, the Navy wants jets from nearby Lenmoore Naval Air Station and
aircraft carriers floating in the Pacific to practice bombing runs
(with 25-pound test bombs) on a portion of this land, reports
Counter Punch. ‘We have the best interests of these
creatures at heart and no harm will come to them,’ Navy officials
claim.
