According to the people at www.detroitproject.com any American who drives an SUV may as well be shuttling terrorists to camp every time they fuel up. The campaign, sponsored by the group Americans for Fuel Efficient Cars, draws direct connections between the gas SUV drivers burn through here at home and the funds that support anti-American exploits across the globe. Using two 30 -second television ads, the group implores viewers to take action and start buying more fuel-efficient or hybrid cars. Syndicated columnist Arrianna Huffington, one of the group’s founders, says she came up with the idea out of frustration from those “outrageous drug war ads the Bush administration has flooded the airwaves with.” The ads haven’t gone unnoticed; they’ve been banned by a handful of stations, including the ABC affiliate in New York City.
