In less than a year, a South Bronx group has dismantled some 30,000 discarded computers and used the parts to rebuild machines for local schools and nonprofit groups. As the environmental magazine The Amicus Journal (Winter 2001) notes, the group, Per Scholas (www.perscholas.org), is also turning out trained computer technicians in the process.
