Hey, Wanna Smoke Some Muggles? Tom
McNichol, Salon.com
To win a battle — even in a war on drugs — you must know your
enemy. That’s why the White House Office of National Drug Control
Policy has compiled a database with more than 2,300 street terms
for drugs and drug-related activities. The introduction to the
database claims that understanding drug-related street terms is an
‘invaluable tool for law enforcement,’ because ‘a single term or
similar terms may refer to various drugs or have different
meanings.’ But don’t expect the lingo in the database to increase
your street cred. Strange slang pervades the drug dictionary, which
lists ‘Dinkie Dow,’ ‘Muggles,’ and ‘broccoli’ as common street
terms for marijuana.
