Where Is the Money?

The Pentagon has misplaced $1.1 trillion. You read that right:
trillion. And the new web site
WhereIsTheMoney.org compares these ‘unaccountable
adjustments’ to uses such as pre-school, health care, and public
education. Every federal agency is required to audit and publish
their financial statements. In 1999, the Department of Defense
reported $2.3 trillion in undocumented adjustments. In 2000 it was
$1.1 trillion, and in 2001 DOD declined to even report their
adjustments. The question is, where did that money go? The new web
site gives some amazing possibilities about what the money
actually could have done. And that has less to do with
head scratching and more to do with sadness and anger.
