A physicist, philosopher, and feminist, Shiva is the director of the Research Foundation for Science, Technology and Natural Resource Policy in Dehradun, India. She is an active opponent of environmental destruction, and a leading critic of current agricultural and reproductive technologies. She brings together the struggles of gender, ecology, ethnicity, class, and human rights in her books Staying Alive: Women, Ecology and Development, The Violence of the Green Revolution: Third World Agriculture, Ecology and Politics, and Monocultures of the Mind.
