ProPublica, a new online hub of investigative journalism, launched earlier this week to greatmedia-blogfanfare. From their website:
ProPublica is an independent, non-profit newsroom that will produce investigative journalism in the public interest. Our work will focus exclusively on truly important stories, stories with “moral force.” We will do this by producing journalism that shines a light on exploitation of the weak by the strong and on the failures of those with power to vindicate the trust placed in them.
They’re just about staffed up and it looks like they’ll post more of their own work as time goes on. In the meantime, ProPublica’s twice-daily roundups of solid public-interest reporting–from mostly mainstream sources, but not exclusively–give me hope for the future of investigative journalism.
