A powerful and eloquent advocate of Indian efforts to recover treaty-guaranteed rights to their lands, LaDuke also fights the “buying off” of Indian lands by the U.S. and Canadian governments. (The buy-offs often lead to nuclear waste dumps, strip-mining, overirrigation, and other environmental degradation.) LaDuke is campaign director for the White Earth Land Recovery Program and the environmental program officer for the Seventh Generation Fund.
